Why people do not hear something new ???????
Not to sound like an elitist … but why people can not hear something different Fur Elise, O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, and Moonlight Sonata? Mena is the people I endlessly! What if people only listened to Madonna's Like a Virgin one and over and over and over and never took a CD of pop again? I think musicians have to be quite annoying pop. And for the love of God, if I hear Pachelbel's Canon in one over the wedding, I think my ears bleed! But seriously … anyone not agree? With classical music being by far the greatest genre of music, How does the average person has heard of only 4 pieces???
The average most of the time a person who only heard of 4 pieces classic is probably to buy new pop CD. real connoisseurs of classical music (which, for the sake of this discussion, including baroque, romantic, and 20th Century) will be as versed in it as your average teenager with the current rock music scene, if not more. There are also new music that was composed vein every day in the "classic" (ie, orchestra, chamber music, etc.) that some people are definitely on. I agree that it would good to hear not so #%$*# Pachelbel's Canon, and how people can know that Beethoven wrote 31 piano sonatas with moonlight, and there are more of Carmina Burana O Fortuna, but when it comes to Joe P. Public, which is much more interested in the latest pop CD, Fur Elise is almost as good as it gets in the classical world. Sigh.
